Dental Checkups and Cleanings
A regular schedule of dental checkups and cleanings is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your teeth. We are very pleased to help our neighbors in Brewster, Brewster Hill, Carmel, Peach Lake, Southeast and other portions of Putnam County keep their teeth sparkling and healthy.
Of course, a good at-home program is also essential to preserving your teeth. But there are some areas of your teeth you just can’t reach with home care. It’s vital to get regular examinations to detect any small problems so they can be addressed immediately. Even the most diligent patient can develop cavities, fractures or other problems needing treatment.
We help our patients maintain their regular schedule by reminding them when they are due for visits and by delivering thorough cleanings and examinations when they visit our office.
Our Procedure for Cleaning and Examining Your Teeth
Our preventative care treatment follows these steps:
- If it’s time for x-rays, we take digital images and analyze them for any problems between the teeth, under fillings or under the gum line. These images will also be used to check the health of bone surrounding and supporting your teeth. Digital images are faster and require less exposure to radiation than film images.
- We check every patient for any signs of cancer, examining face, lips, gums, inside the cheeks and under the tongue.
- Our hygienist will clean off calculus that has accumulated since your last cleaning. Calculus is the hard deposit that results when plaque is allowed to remain on the teeth. A good at-home program is effective in removing most plaque from teeth, but can never reach it all which is why regular professional cleanings are vital.
- Your gums will be examined for any signs of disease.
- A polishing will help remove the last of calculus and superficial stains.
By sticking to a regular schedule of these visits, you greatly reduce your need for more extensive and expensive treatments. It’s just an excellent investment in your health.
