Crowns and Dental Bridges

As we provide Putnam Bright Smile Dentistry patients with crowns or dental bridges, we take pride in ensuring these items look perfect and fit exactly. Every time we protect a tooth with a crown or replace one with a bridge, we use our skills to match the color and shape of the natural teeth. Both crowns and bridges should look natural and enhance a patient’s smile.

How Are Crowns Created?

Crowns are manufactured from high-quality porcelain materials that have proven their extraordinary durability in millions of patients. To place your crown, we will need to prepare your damaged tooth for placement. We will shape that tooth so a crown will fit over it without impeding your bite.

After shaping the tooth, we take an impression of your mouth so we know exactly how to design your crown. We will consult you on the correct coloration of the crown so you will be completely happy with the way it matches your other teeth.

When we receive the crown back from the lab, we will bring you back to the office so we can try it out to ensure an exact fit. If needed, we will make adjustments on the spot. When the fit is perfect, we permanently cement your crown in place and you’ll be ready to go.

Your New Bridge

If we are unable to save a tooth because it is too infected or damaged, we can offer a dental bridge as a replacement. A bridge is made up of two crowns that will be placed on either side of a gap, with one or two replacement teeth in the middle.

The procedure for placing a bridge is fairly similar to the procedure for placing a crown. Like a crown, this is a fast way of fixing a damaged smile. Cared for properly, a bridge can last you many years.

To prepare your teeth for a bridge, the teeth on either side of the gap will be shaped for crowns. We take an impression of these prepared teeth and the gap and send this information to the lab. The lab will create a bridge that matches your other teeth in color and shape.

When the bridge has been manufactured, we try it out in your mouth to ensure it fits perfectly, adjusting it as needed. When we are done, your smile is once again complete and you can now chew your food normally. You’ll no longer suffer from the inconvenience and stress of having to chew on only one side of your mouth.
